Dear Cesar,
I was happy to receive yours of October 29 and to know that you
are now Vice-Rector of the University. Please accept my warmest
congratulations.
Some time ago Paul told me that he had received the cacti you
sent him and that they were exactly what he needed. He is very
busy preparing for his six months in Europe, but I am sure that
he will write you soon.
Concerning your proposed book on plant hunting in Peru, will
you refer only to your botanical collections or to those of others
also? If the latter, you will find references to all places of
collection by our expeditions up to the last one (1957-58) in the
paper by Stork and myself of which I am sure that I sent you a
copy. I think that I can make the record complete by preparing
a list of the Hutchison and Marshall collecting localities during
the last expedition.
I believe that it would be a great service to botanists if
you mentioned the work of others in Peru. Perhaps you might
simply give a list, at the end of the book, of all those who have
made collections with localities and approximate dates. This
would require some research and correspondence but would much
increase the value of the book as a scientific contribution.
We join in all good wishes to you and your Señora.
Very cordially,
THG/byh
T. H. Goodspeed
P.S.
I hope that before another year the second (much revised) edition
of my "Plant Hunters in the Andes" will be published.
