Plant Exploration
In connection with SK&F natural products program, developed methods for plant exploration and procurement of plant materials likely to yield novel chemical structures of potential medicinal use. Extensive travel in Central and South America, particularly in Amazon-basin; West Africa and Africa south of the Sahara; Malaysia, New Guinea and Australia; two years residence and several visits to Western Europe. Plant Screening
Development of simple methods for the qualitative and semi-quantitative assay of plants for alkaloids in the field, thus avoiding unnecessary transport of samples to distant laboratories and permitting on-the-spot collection of selected material for chemical study... (unpublished work).
