In 16th century, with awakening of all learning, study
of plants returned. In western Europe, a group of
botanists, herbologists, started studying their own
plants they collected. They were still largely
interested in medicinal value, but started
bringing plants together.
Cesalpino 1583 was one of earliest, wrote a treatise
on the Umbelliferae -
German herbologists
Otto Brunfels
Carfor Bauhin - 1st binary names;
Leonard Fuchs
Bock
French
l'Obel & J.P. Tournefort - last herbologists - 1st recognized
genus in 1699.
Italy-Cesalpino - first monograph

William Turner - a minister
John Ray - greatest Eng. herbologist. In 1699 reduced
equation to 3 - looking inside
seeds- found the embryo, dividing into
(Dicotyledoneae (true leaves), 1 seed
leaf 2 Monocotyledoneae, 2 seed leaves,
Gdicotyledoneae. As early as 1699, the
thing which we consider modern naturally
was not introduced.
