as an invited paper
was printed (in a Spanish translation prepared by me) in the Memorias del Congreso Cientifico
Mexicano published in 1953. Another part, the section dealing with the history of
botany is due to be published in the Memorias de la Academia Nacional de Ciencias de
Mexico, as my contribution on election as corresponding member of the Academia. A paper
dealing with botanical gardens among the ancient Mexicans was sent, on invitation, to the
Botanical Congress in Paris, in 1954. This was based on material collected for the bibliography,
as were papers submitted at meetings of the AIBS in 1953 and 1954. The latter two
dealt with references to Mexican plants in early non-botanical works. As other sections
become more or less complete, I shall try to secure preliminary publication in various
journals.
Amount Requested from National Science Foundation:
A sum of $3000 fmx would be needed for a year of travel and subsistence in
Mexico. This could best be paid in monthly installments of $250.
