Dear Dr. Wasser:
I have just returned from Brazil where I made a survey of some
of the fungi of a tropical rain forest in the state of Roraima. Among the
items in my accumulated mail was a copy of your Agaricaceae of the USSR.
It is very kind of you to have sent this to me, and I shall do
my best to inform my colleagues of its publication. Since a summary of its
contents has already appeared in Biological Abstracts, many English readers
will have been informed of its appearance. Of course, if it is to be used
by English readers, a translation would be imperative. It is this point that
I would like to have clarified. Has such a translation already been made?
If so, is it in manuscript form? When I know the answers to these questions
I shall better be able to make the necessary inquiries regarding its publi-
cation in the U.S.A.
As you know, my knowledge of Russian is quite primitive (inciden-
tally, I admire your excellent command of English!), and I read it only la-
boriously. However, anyone can appreciate the fine drawings and electromicro-
graphs. I can not promise you anything that is beyond my control, but I shall
gladly make every effort to assist an esteemed colleague.
Please let me hear from you soon, since I expect to be on a myco-
logical project in Mexico within the next month or so.
With best regards,
Sincerely,
B. Lowy
